Test Days

Special days are set aside to try Skate Canada skating tests for STARSkate skaters. For lower STAR levels, coaches will complete assessments. For higher STAR levels, test days are run on our own ice time in our own arenas. There are two or three test days scheduled during the regular skating season. The skater's coach(es) generally determines whether or not the skater is ready to test and submit the skater's name to the Test Chairman.

Tentative 2023 date scheduled for December 17, 2023.

Test fees apply for all Skate Canada evaluations. These fees are necessary to cover the cost of ice rental and other expenses incurred for the test day.

There is a separate charge for each test evaluated, an administration fee, and if applicable, dance partnering fees. Each skater will be billed by the Test Chair for the tests submitted by their coach and must pay, in full, all fees prior to testing. Members and parents are reminded that skaters must be in good standing of their home club (i.e. no outstanding fees, dues or other monies owed to the club) in order to be eligible to test.

Each club is required to submit their list of requested evaluations 3 weeks prior to the test, and must confirm their final list of evaluations 2 weeks prior to the test. ALL TESTS LISTED ON THE FINAL LIST WILL BE BILLED AND MUST BE PAID IN FULL REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE SKATER PERFORMS THE TEST OR NOT. All coaches and skaters are reminded that after the final list has been submitted to the Test Chair of the host club, when a skater or coach determines that the skater is not ready or not able to test and opts not to attend the evaluation, the test submitted is recorded as a “Retry” by Skate Canada, and the club incurs costs separate from those billed to the skater.

Please contact the Test Chair for further information.
